Film3 | Community is the Utility
If you are on my regular mailing list then you will have received this, but I felt I wanted to share more widely.
Many of our beloved community have been devastated by the wildfires in the Los Angeles area and the ripple effects globally can be felt, not only in the shared grief but in the evidence of the love and support pouring in around the world for those in need. Many of our friends and colleagues have lost their homes and many more are displaced. From Covid, the strikes, to the fires, we are resilient, but the fragile state of our industry has never been more palpable. It is going to take a global village to rebuild, and those of us who can build right now, we need to carry the burden for our friends and colleagues who cannot, so that there is an industry to return to.
In light of that, I am going to go ahead with my scheduled interview with Time Magazine’s “TimePieces” on the Good Morning Show with Rachel Wilkins - Monday Jan 20th at 11am ET on Twitter. It is an honor to be invited to speak on Film3 after 4 years of relentlessly building this new business model for the industry. It may be more relevant than ever now.
Film3 is driven by the power of community. Community will reshape and rebuild our industry.
In mid December I began a deep dive exploring the GenAI tools because Pika Labs gifted me with credits, and utilizing them alongside Kling I was able to tell one of the many stories that have languished in my hard drives for decades because of how challenging it is financially to make films. This is why GenAI has always been a part of the Film3 business model because of the democratization of opportunity. This small film is alarmingly prescient in many ways. I will be releasing it alongside my interview with TimePieces on Monday.
“Absolutely beautiful. Love the poetry, the tone, the feeling. It’s gorgeous.”
- Luis Enrique Vanegas, filmmaker
Those of us who can build right now, we need to carry the burden for our friends and colleagues who cannot, so that there is an industry to return to.
I have often said over the last four years in Film3 that community is the utility. It is more true than ever now.
